So here it is. Another stinking take on where we are at, sorry but necessary.
I've been contemplating sharing my thoughts on this crazy time since the "stay at home" mandate happened. My clarity has have been coming in waves and my heart has hurt for so many:
- My family: I have parents who fall in the "most vulnerable" population. My boy who should be celebrating 8th Grade Graduation and all that entails. My girl who relies on routine, peer & teacher in person interaction, and her first volleyball season cut short. My husband (our primary provider,) who has been laid off. Soccer seasons that didn't happen. Birthday celebrations without friends. The list goes on.
- Our community: Families who have lost loved ones to COVID -19. Local businesses struggling to stay open. Front line workers in the healthcare industry and workers in essential businesses braving their health to serve. Educators who so miss their students and worry about reaching every student along with managing their own families.
- Our Nation: So divided right now and scared about health and economics impacts of this pandemic.
So here's my take and how West Seattle Macaroni Kid will be moving forward as we traverse the Phases outlined by our State Government:
- For starters, I'm sticking to an online event calendar. I'm no scientist, though I believe in science. I will not be responsible for promoting any event where I cannot guarantee precautions are followed. You all will be the first to know when this changes! If you need clarity on what proper precautions are, use the tips in my article Be a Social Distance Pro. If you know of locally sponsored online events - please submit them HERE.
- Supporting Local Family Fun will remain my top priority. I have a wealth of ways to help with inspiration in the Articles section of the West Seattle Mac Kid site.
- Supporting Local Small Business. My Local Small Online Business Guide is PACKED with everything from music education, kids clothing, art, family dance, chiropractic care, sports equipment, to photography and meditation. A pandemic reinforces the need for all of us to shop local and shop small. I am doing my part to support small business right now by (shopping local of course!) AND providing FREE LISTINGS in this guide. If you own a local small business submit it HERE to be included
- Supporting those who support our Community. The Macaroni Kid Acts of Kindness Guide (#MKAOK) has countless ways we can help our community. If you can help - we've got the ways that you can do so as a family! If you have any additions to the list here please email me! marye@macaronikid.com
Ok, there you have it.
