With Seattle Public Schools (and some private schools) giving students both Thursday AND Friday off this week, you might be looking at an unexpected 4-Day Weekend. Need some ideas for fun events to attend? Check out Macaroni Kid West Seattle's picks for the TEN things to do in the Seattle area with kids this weekend. While some events are paid, there is plenty of FREE fun available November 12-14. Click on the links for all the details!


1. Bunka no Hi | Japanese Culture Day Festival - Free

Bunka no Hi (literally Culture Day) is a holiday in Japan that celebrates Japanese culture. Bunka no Hi at the JCCCW, or Japanese Culture Day Festival, is a free cultural festival dedicated to celebrating, commemorating, and educating the public about Japanese and Japanese American Culture in the Seattle area. 

November 12-14, 2021: 10am-4pm


2. Sea Critter Story Time - Free (Virtual Event)

Listen to stories, sing songs and then join the MaST Center of Highline College to learn about local Puget Sound sea stars, snails, hermit crabs and more!

3. Wild Lanterns at Woodland Park Zoo - Paid

Explore the zoo like never before with a brand-new lantern festival unlike any in the Northwest! WildLanterns presented by BECU offers a larger-than-life, immersive experience that will “wow” anyone, no matter their age!

4. Visit the MaST on Discovery Days - Free

The 2,500 square-foot facility offers public space, classroom, laboratories, offices, research areas with state-of-the-art equipment and an aquarium. The Aquarium holds over 15 tanks totaling approximately 3,000 gallons of flow-through seawater, and displays over 250 native Puget Sound marine species.

5. Northwest Art Alliance’s Best of the Northwest Fall Show - Free

In its 33rd year, the Best of the Northwest Fall Show is Seattle's premier Art & Fine Craft show and will be held in-person at Hangar 30 in Warren G. Magnuson Park, Seattle. The event will take place as a 2-day show, November 13-14. Enjoy seeing your favorite artists and find for unique gifts or something special for yourself and home. Shop for beautiful artwork like paintings, sculpture, glass, wearable art, jewelry, photography and more. Have fun and help support Northwest artists.

6. Delridge Farmer’s Market - Free

Join African Community Housing & Development in bringing fresh, vibrant, culturally-relevant foods to the South Delridge/West Seattle community at our brand new Farmers Market. This is the last Farmer's Market of the season.

7. Holiday Science Magic - Free (Virtual Event)

"Zoom" in for this interactive show packed with super-cool science stunts! Jeff Evans shares his favorite demonstrations of density, air pressure, the center of mass, Newton's Laws of Motion and the forms of matter. Follow along with household items and amaze yourself in your own home! Invite your whole family to participate in this fun holiday program.

8. Festival Latinx - Free

Back in person for 2021 with the theme of Esperanza (Hope), Festival Latinx is a celebration of the Latino communities of the South Sound, with music, dance, art, crafts and more! Safely enjoy performances from mariachi to salsa, along with vibrant art installations and a mercadito. Free entry to the main event with vaccination or proof of negative test. Alternative space with onsite vaccination clinic available.

9. The Hip Hop Nutcracker at The Paramount Theater - Paid

Just like the classic Nutcracker story, in The Hip Hop Nutcracker Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s beloved story from traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of a colorful and contemporary New York City.

10. Ride the Rails on the Snoqualmie Valley Railroad - Paid

Traveling west from North Bend through Snoqualmie to the top of Snoqualmie Falls, a sacred site to the Snoqualmie People, to see a scenic view of the valley below. Visitors then travel east back to North Bend. Visitors view the scenic sites in upper Snoqualmie Valley on their 90-minute round trip.
